Put simply, Pilates is a unique type of exercise designed to condition your mind and body.

Pilates uses specially designed equipment as well as traditional mat work to restore and strengthen musculoskeletal balance. This means it is an ideal way to achieve a 'strong centre' using your abdominals, pelvis and back.

Developed in the 1920's by the now legendary Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates method is an exercise system focused on integrating the mind and body in order to regain balance and control. With a reputation for vastly improving flexibility, building strength without bulk and generally lengthening and streamlining the body, it is not surprising that some of the greatest advocates and supporters of the pilates method were dancers. These days, the same benefits draw people from all walks of life to the method of pilates.

Pilates is not only great for overall strengthening of the body, but ideal for specific rehabilitation of injuries and conditions. It can also help invigorate and energise the body through breathing and body focus that stimulates circulation and mental clarity.

In short, there is no other form of exercise like it. At Pilates International we guarantee you'll see - and feel - the difference, straight away.
